Russia To Launch 3 Glonass Satellites In March
Moscow, Russia (RIA Novosti) Feb 17, 2010
A Proton M carrier rocket bearing three Glonass satellites will be launched from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan on March 2, Russian space officials said on Monday. The carrier rocket and the satellites are currently being tested at the Kazakh space center. Glonass - the Global Navigation Satellite System - is the Russian equivalent of the U.S. Global Positioning System, or GPS, and is designed for both military and civilian use. Russia launched on Wednesday a Progress cargo spaceship on a resupply mission to the International Space Station (ISS), a spokesman for the Russian Mission Control said. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) chief K. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday said the configuration for the new moon mission 'Chandrayaan-2' is being finalized and added that it would be launched by 2013. Chandrayaan-2, which will be a joint effort between ISRO and Russia, will consist of a lander and a rover for a soft land on moon.
