Russia scraps 70 percent of war chemicals

Russia has destroyed 70 percent of its chemical arsenal, deputy industry and commerce minister Georgy Kalamanov said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the 17th Conference of countries, participants in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague on Tuesday, Kalamanov said that a complete destruction of war chemicals remains a major priority for Russia.

188 countries have signed up to the Convention on the banning and scrapping of chemical weapons since it went into effect in 1997.
