Sweden orders countermeasure dispensers for Gripen

by Ryan Maass Washington (UPI) Dec 22, 2015 UPI

The Swedish Defense Material Administration has placed an order to Saab for the production of countermeasure dispensers for the Gripen fighter.

The contract, valued at approximately $26.4 million, supports the devices used by the Gripen multi-role fighters used by the Swedish Air Force to deploy chaffs and flares. Saab will produce countermeasure dispenses for the Gripen E and C/D variants with the goal of enhancing the defensive capabilities of the jets.

Work on the contract is scheduled to begin in 2016, to be completed in 2020.

The Gripen fighter is a multi-role aircraft designed for both air-to-air and air-to-surface combat, in addition to reconnaissance missions. The aircraft is capable of changing those roles while airborne, and executing multiple roles simultaneously.
